I can’t remember how this job came my way. Most likely, it was because I’d got my foot in the door at Radio Four via my stint as a singer-songwriter on Midweek. I do remember being thrilled to meet the cast, which included a quartet of well-known names: Fenella Fielding, Hugh Paddick, Alfred Marks and Polly James. The director, Michael Bartlett, was a lovely man, who made this, my debut in a radio play, a less intimidating experience for me than it otherwise might have been.
